Our Last Day of Caching in Panama City 3/2/2008
Well we ate breakfast and loaded Muffy and Raggs into the car for our last day of caching in Panama City. Our first stop was at the Martin House which was built in 1910. It is now used for private parties and wedding receptions and is reputed to be haunted. The next cache was at a Penquin Ice Machine, then on to Callaway Veteran's Park which had a F-15 on display.
Next a cache in a vacant lot, then a cache that was dedicated to the awareness of breast cancer at a local cancer center. The cache was stocked with all kinds of pink items for trade. Next was a cache in a small park under a bridge, then a nano cache on a sign, then a cache behind the Lynn Haven Police Dept.
Next was a virtual cache at a Union soldier monument which is the only monument south of the Mason-Dixon line honoring a Union soldier. It has been featured on Ripley's Believe It or Not. It was started in 1913 by the Grand Army of the Republic. Most of the cost was provided by contributions from the soldiers pension checks. Atop a pedestal 26' above the base stands this Union Soldier forever looking toward his home in the North. Upon completion the monument was dedicated "to the memory of those left behind on the battlefield".
Then on to 2 caches in small parks in Lynn Haven. When we got to the first park there was another vehicle there and we noticed a geocaching bumper sticker on it and come to find out it was the owner of the cache that we looked for twice this week that has had 50 DNF's so far and has been out since Dec 4th. We had a nice chat with him and his wife and tried to pick his brain but with no luck.
Next we visited Jeffrey Scott Davey Park for a multi-cache. It was a lovely small park the overlooked the bay with a fantastic breathtaking view. Our last cache was in a drive up coffee shop that was now closed. Then we stopped at Subway and got lunch, they had no sub rolls as someone forgot to bake them. On back to the RV and Mom did the logs and I watched the Nascar race, we ate and I am doing the blogs and soon it will be bedtime. Well time to say goodnight and we love and miss you all.
