On to Bay St louis, MS 3/23/2010

We packed up again and were on our way to Bay St louis, MS and a 3 day stay at the Hollywood Casino RV Resort. It was another uneventful, thank goodness, trip which took about 2 hours. The one thing we enjoyed is driving the Jubilee Parkway Bridge across Mobile Bay into Mobile. The bridge is 7.5 miles long and seemed like it would never end. After driving through Mobile we drove down RT 10 and got off at RT 15 into Biloxi, MS so we could drive RT 90 along the ocean. WOW it really is still unbelievable, we guess. Hurricane Katrina hit this area almost 5 years ago with great force. Although there has been some improvement since we were here 2 years ago it is awesome to still see the remnants of what Katrina left. As we drove through Biloxi, Long Beach, Pass Christian and into Bay St Louis you could still see what is left of the utter destruction. All along the road there are still many many many empty lots where homes used to stand. Piles of debris are everywhere. Roads are closed still waiting to be paved or to have new water, sewer or gas lines installed. They are making progress as you can see homes springing up here and there. New businesses are few and far between although the gambling casinos are up and running. For Sale signs are abundant all along the oceanfront with a few new apartment complexes and high rise buildings springing up. Wal Mart has a new store in Long Beach. We suppose that it takes time and would imagine that it's going to take another 10 years to get life back the way it was 5 years ago. We drove across the new 2.2 mile bridge into Bay St Louis, the old one was destroyed by Katrina, and got to the campgrounds. We got set up, ate lunch and went out to do a few caches and look around. Bay St Louis is no different than any of the other towns as they have the sam destruction the others do and many many of the same problems rebuilding. We did find 3 caches, went back and had dinner and watched TV. Well until next time we love and miss you all. Mom & Dad Dori & Dick
