No Caching....Rivertown & Dinner in the French Quarter 3/31/2010

This morning we had a few errands to run and we took a drive out to see the TPC of Louisiana Golf Course where they will be playing the Zurich Classic in 3 weeks. WOW what a layout. The course was lovely and they were already starting to set up for the tournament. We walked around and watched them setting up the stands, tents and scoreboards. We had a talk with the starter who had been working there for only 4 years and whose Dad was from New York too. He gave us a scorecard and the yardage for the pros is 7400 yards and for duffers like me it's 5100 yards.

Then we drove down to Rivertown, LA which is only about a mile away from the KOA. Rivertown offers a host of cultural and family attractions, including eight museums, a fine arts gallery, a Repertory Theater and LaSalle's Landing. In addition, visitors can shop and dine in restaurants and gift shops in and around the area. Rivertown is a sixteen-block historic district, providing family entertainment and an educational experience. Included in the attractions in Rivertown are the Kenner Planetarium & MegaDome Cinema, Children's Castle, Science Complex, Kenner Heritage Park, Mardi Gras Museum, Louisiana Toy Train Museum, Treasure Chest Casino, the
Cannes Brûlée Native American Exhibit and the Kenner Repertory Theater. The award winning theatre features Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas, and command performances in this 300-seat facility. Winner of numerous Big Easy awards and the critic's choice for area productions, the theatre showcases some of the best talent in our state.

Then we drove down to a shopping center also close to the campgrounds and had lunch at a Frostop Root Beer Restaurant. The first Frostop Root Beer stand opened in Springfield, OH in 1926. The company expanded nationwide, reaching over 100 locations by 1958. By the 1960s, there were over 350 locations. The chain folded in the early 1980s. The drive-ins' rotating giant mugs were introduced in the 1954 at a New Orleans location. The mugs are about 14' tall and made of sheet metal.

Then it was back to the coach for the afternoon and a short nap as we were driving into the French Quarter for dinner and to see what it looks like after dark. We left about 6:00 and got downtown in short time as there was hardly any traffic at all. We found a garage to park in and it only cost $8.00. We parked and starting walking down Bourbon St. Well well it was quite something. The people were amazing, the bars and restaurants were all lit up, the strip joints had girls dancing outside doing some advertising and it seemed everyone was walking around with a drink in there hand. Some of the bars never close and are open 24 hours a day and serve all that time as there is no laws governing it. You can also drink on the streets in the French Quarter as long as you have it in a plastic cup. The drinks of choice are Hurricanes and Hand Grenades. We walked down about 4 blocks on Bourbon and found a seafod restaurant to eat in. The food was great as Mom had a crawfish Po-Boy and I had a crawfish seafood platter. We ate then walked slowly back to the car amazed at the different people along the streets. There were many mimes dressed in all kinds of costumes (see picture) begging for tips if you wanted to take there picture, I didn't tip them by the way. We got back to the garage and drove back to the coach shaking our heads even though we were glad we made the trip because it was worth seeing it once.

Well until tomorrow we miss and love you all and Anna we hope you had a great birthday. Mom & Dad Dori & Dick
