Second Day of Caching in Southaven 4/9/2009

Well here we are on our second day in the Memphis area and again we are going out around the Southaven area to do some caching. Our first cache was right here at the RV park as we found out the Mom & Dad of the girl we met when we checked in are new to geocaching and allowed someone to hide one here. Second cache was in a gas station down the road from us, third was under a light post skirt in a mall near a Sportsman's Store, fourth cache was in the same mall also under a light post skirt, fifth cache was in a hospital parking lot also under a light post skirt, sixth cache was also in the hospital area, but not under a light skirt, but down next to a survey marker under a rock, seventh cache was at a Wonder Bread discount store out in front so we took advantage of the good prices and went in and stocked up on bread, rolls, Ding Dongs and Twinkies. Eighth cache was in a new office park in a garden, ninth cache was in Trinity Baptist church in a old tree, tenth cache was on a Auto Zone sign, eleventh was another Baptist church also in an old tree, twelfth cache was behind another small office park in the woods in a hollow tree, thirteenth was a the former site of the local Moose Lodge which is now a tennis complex and the fourteenth cache was at a cacher's house in the front yard.
The only cache that was interesting and had any kind of story to it was our last cache located at Snowden Grove Park which is one of the greatest baseball and sports complexes we have ever seen. Snowden Grove Park, built in 1999, has set the standard for which all new youth baseball complexes are trying to emulate. This 17-field baseball only facility possesses many features only previously found at professional stadiums. Because of its many amenities and locale, Snowden Grove Park has been awarded and continues to host numerous World Series and National Events including the 1999 to present year - 10 Year Old USSSA World Series, 1999 to present year - NABF World Classics in the 10, 12, 13 and 14 Year Old divisions, the 1999 thru 2009 - Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series in the 8, 9, 13, Soph., Jr. and Sr. divisions and new for 2009 the Global Sports Baseball World Series in the 11, 13 and 14 Year Old Age Divisions. The development of Snowden Grove Park resulted in the City of Southaven receiving the prestigious Economic Development Award presented by the State of Mississippi for the impact that this park has had on the local economy of Southaven, MS. Snowden Grove Park was awarded the USSSA World Series Host Site of the year in 2000 and was awarded the 2008 USSSA Complex of the Year. The latest addition to Snowden Grove Park is the Southaven Field of Dreams, a mini complex for handicapped and mentally challenged children and adults. No longer are these special people left out, the Field of Dreams provides the opportunity for them to participate in the great game of Baseball in a safe environment. Some of the features of the complex and the 17 baseball fields have are: sub surface drainage on all infields, Southern Athletic TurfTM infield mix / conditioner on all infields, grass infields on ALL fields, Tifton 419TM Bermuda on all infields and outfields, computerized irrigation system on all fields, MuscoTM lighting on all fields substantially exceeding minimum youth field requirements, electronic Scoreboards on all fields, covered and enclosed dugouts, main concession area with two 50 x 100 long pavilions with picnic tables, additional main concession in Complex D, numerous portable concessions Kiosk's throughout park, VIP area on second level of main concession, on site gift shop, entire complex side walked and surfaced with professional landscaping, and ample paved parking. The complex also includes 2-18 hole miniature golf courses, indoor soccer arena, indoor batting cages, indoor batting instructional room, arcade 2 party rental rooms and a full size bowling alley across the street in its own building. It was simply beautiful and it really must be a pleasure for the yong boys and girls to play on fields like this.
Well then it was back to the RV after we stopped and got gas and a new battery for our phone. We had lunch and then Mom went to the mall close to the campgrounds and walked around and I vacuumed and worked on the blog. Mom got back and she did our cache logs and I watched TV. By that time it was dinner time and we ate and watched TV for the rest of the evening. Well that's about it for today so we will close and tell you we love you all. Mom & Dad
