First Day of Caching in Memphis (Southaven, MS) 4/8/2009

We loaded some caches into the GPS this morning and off we went to the area around the campgrounds Southaven, MS. We are only a few miles outside of Memphis but really didn't want to go caching in the city until the weekend as we can imagine the traffic is something else so we are staying locally in Southaven for a few days and doing our caching here. First cache was at a auto parts store, second cache was at a pizza place, third cache was on a walking trail in a small neighborhood, fourth cache was in a small cemetery in the woods, fifth cache was in a shopping center under a light skirt, sixth cache was in another cemetery that was established in 1844, seventh cache was behind a gas station on a power box, eight cache was at a furniture store, caches 9,10,11 & 12 were in a huge, and I mean huge, business park that didn't look like it had to many tenants and all of them were under light skirts and caches 13 and 14 were in a huge Baptist church parking lot one on a light pole up high and the other in a tree way in the back of property.
That was about it for actual caches but a couple of interesting things we saw were: in the first cemetery we came to, the small one it seems as if nobody knows its name or who owns it and there was one interesting marker there. It seems that Pvt J. Allen killed in WW2 while he was in the US Army has 2 exactly alike markers side by side all except for one thing and that was on one the had his middle name spelled out and on the other all they had was the initial (see picture). The other thing was the larger of the 2 cemeteries went to which was the Edmondson Cemetery established in 1844. We saw a lot of older markers and one of them was of Col. W. E. Morgan who died of wounds suffered at the Battle of Murfressboro, TN along with quite a few more older markers.
We drove back to the RV and Mom did our logs and I did the blog and by that time it was dinner time so we ate and watched TV for the rest of the evening. Well that's about it for today from MS so we love you all and miss you. Mom & Dad
