Down the Road to Oacoma & Chamberlain, SD 7/27/2010

We packed up in Wall this morning and set our sights about 150 miles east down I-90 to Oacoma, SD and the nearby city of Chamberlain. It was really a boring trip as there was absolutely nothing at all to see except green pastures, corn fields, plains and hills. It took us about 2 1/2 hours and we did cross back into the Central time Zone so now we can get a little bit of our usual time schedule. It reall was hard getting used to the MDT and everything being 2 hours earlier than we were used to. We got there about 12:30, checked and got set up. We are staying at the Cedar Shore Resort Campgrounds about 2 miles outside Oacoma. We are right on the Missouri River which is about 20' from our door. When we finished checking in Jerry told us where we would have to go in case of a tornado warning as they have evacuated the campgrounds 3 times in the last 5 weeks for tornado warnings which made us feel nice and comfy cozy. Every river in SD is above flood stage and you could see it as we drove here as there was water all over the place where it wasn't supposed to be. The campgrounds is nice with nice large long sites, good bathrooms great cable but no wi-fi which is no big deal. The campgrounds is, as its name implies, at a resort where they have a large hotel with pool, spa and restaurant which we are entitled to use at anytime. After we finished setting up we took a ride into Oacoma, population 390, and then into Chamberlain, population 2338, a little bigger. There was absolutely nothing in Oacoma but Chamberlain did have a small downtown historic district. We stopped at the local store and picked up a few things that we needed and were back off to the coach. Well that is about it from here for today so until tomorrow we love and miss you all.
