Well Monday was the first day of the Syracuse District Seniors Best Ball Championship at Dutch Hollow golf course and it promised to be a good day, at least George and I hoped it did. We didn't tee off until 11:40 so it had started to get very hot and humid. The front nine was great as we shot a 3 over par 39. Then we hit the wall as the heat and humidity just got to us like you can't believe. It got very oppressive and it had drained us by the time we started the back nine and it showed as the best we could do was a 51 for a 90 total which meant we had to play in the fourth flight on Tuesday.
Tuesday didn't bring any better weather and it started out hot and humid again when we teed off about 8:30. Well the day didn't get much better from Monday as we bombed out with a 89 and last place in our flight. Again we think that the heat and humidity got to us as we were really drained by the time we got done at 1:00. We talked it over and came to the conclusion that we couldn't compete with some of the seniors playing as they were shooting 63, 64 and 65's and were long ball hitters. On Tuesday we didn't hit a short iron to a green on a second shot all day unless it was just for a layup. It really was no fun hitting woods on every second shot on the par fours, a wood on some of the par fives for a third shot and a wood off the tee on all the par threes. We just don't hit the ball far enough to be able to have that short iron into the green so we might have a chance to get it close and make a birdie. Oh well not much we can do but it sure would be nice to play from the senior tees in those tournaments just to see how much of a difference it would make, after all I am 68 and George is 73 and competeing with 55 year olds who hit the ball a ton is tough. Dutch Hollow from the white tees, where we played from, is set up just at the distance that makes it difficult for someone who only hits a drive 200 yards to reach the green without using a wood on their second shot. Most of the par fours are 375-400 yards. The par threes are 155 yards and up which make them all wood holes for your drives and the par fives aren't to bad as with 2 good wood shots you can reach the green with an iron on your third shot all except #15 which is 585 yards and almost impossible for us to reach in 3 unless we get 20-30 yards of roll on each shot. Oh well better luck next year.
Wednesday brought another humid day as I tried to recover from the last 2 days as I was still tired and drained. We took Muffy and Raggs to the groomer at 9:00 and went and ran a few errands. We came back and I worked on our state park campground list for the upcoming year. We picked the puppies up at 1:00 and she did a great job on grooming them unlike the last time we had them done in Mississippi. We went back to the coach and Mom made some brownies for dessert tonight and I BBQed chicken and we had salt potatoes and chicken sandwiches. I went to bed early to see if I could catch up on my sleep and Mom watched TV. Well that's about all the news that's fit to print from here and we will see you next time and we love you all.
