On To Oklahoma City But Not Very Smoothly 5/25/2010

We packed up this morning on our 47th anniversary and headed out the 120 miles up to, "tornado alley", Oklahoma City. The trip started out very nicely as the road was great, the traffic light and the scenery very lovely. Well that all deteriorated very quickly. We ran into construction about 50 miles from OKC and the road was simply awful for about 20 miles. It was just as rough as a washboard and it's a wonder we didn't blow a tire on the car, coach or dolly. The construction cleared up and it was fine till we got just outside of Norman and screech we hit the brakes and were in the middle of a traffic jam. We crept along at 3-5 miles an hour for what seemed like forever. Quarter mile after quarter mile for about 3-4 miles. We needed gas for the coach so we decided to get off at the exit coming up and fill up at a Love's. This was the only good part of our trip as we found gas at $2.39 a gallon and we haven't seen those kind of prices since late 2008. We filled up and got back on the interstate only to sit in line again in the traffic jam. Well come to find out they were funneling 3 lanes of traffic down into one lane for a private contractor to dig out and fill in a 2 lane section of the highway at the next exit ramp. What a bunch of complete idiots. Well we were going to be at the campgrounds at 11:30 and never got here till 1:00. One hour and a half sitting in that mess. Oh well!!!!! Well we got to the Rockwell RV Park west of OKC and got set up, had lunch and went to the store for a few things. The campground seems nice, bathrooms fair, wi-fi so so, cable great and really the only thing that isn't to great was there is no grass for the dogs to go to the bathroom. There is a field a little ways from our coach and they do have a dog walk but it is at the other end of the campgrounds. Other than that it seems nice. There are a lot of workers and insurance men staying here as they had a terrible wind and hail storm here about 10 days ago and there was a lot of damage. Well after we got back Mom and I went to dinner for our anniversary at Shorty Smalls a TGIF type restaurant that had a little bit of everything. Dinner was great as Mom had ribs and I had catfish and brisket. We came back after dinner and that was about it for a long tiring day. Well that's it for today so until tomorrow we love and miss you all. Mom & Dad Dori & Dick
