Another Day of Caching in Asheville 3/20/2009

This morning we called Tim & Chris to wish them both a 45th Happy Birthday. Boy so many years ago and time goes by so so fast. Then we left to go caching around where we are staying here in Swannanoa as it was another beautiful day. Most of the caches we did today weren't very historical or interesting, unfortunately. There were a few near stores like a carpet store and a Harley-Davidson store, one at a old deserted store in the country, one near the Asheville water supply dam, one near a Bank of America, and another next to a Ingles Grocery Store. We did have a nice walk on a nature trail that was on the campus of Warren Wilson College where we found 2 caches and met up with 2 girls on horseback. After that we found one at a dentists office, one at a BP gas station, one near the entrance to the Billy Graham Training Center, one near a creek on a sign and the last one at the Anchor Stem Power Co. a local boiler and piping contractor and repair service.
Like I said the one nice part of the day was the hike on the Warren Wilson College Nature Trail and then driving over to see the college. Warren Wilson College is a small liberal arts college and it is known for its curriculum of work, academics, and service, called "the Triad." The Triad requires every student to work an on-campus job, perform at least one hundred hours of community service over four years and complete a requisite course of academic work in order to graduate. TA local legend claims Warren Wilson to be the only small liberal arts college with a full grown gnarwhal in its swimming pond. The college has grown into a small (about 900 students) liberal arts school with some nationally known programs. In contrast to its original student population of underprivileged mountain youth, Warren Wilson now enrolls students of many different geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. It confers both bachelor of arts and bachelor of science degrees and, via its MFA Program for Writers, the Master of Fine Arts in creative writing. In addition to traditional majors such as biology and English, undergraduates have the option of majoring in outdoor leadership or environmental studies. A local legend claims Warren Wilson to be the only small liberal arts college with a full grown gnarwhal in its swimming pond. Bathing is allowed, although the proper respects must be paid to the gnarwhal and the mountain biking team was second place in the nation (Division II) in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007.
After we were done we drove back to the coach and had lunch and Mom did our logs and I took a nap. We had dinner and then drove into Asheville to do a night cache where you had to use a flashlight to travel around the downtown streets shining the light on trees for fire tacks that the cache owner had placed there along a route along the streets to the final cache location. We did find the final cache location but did not find the cache itself as it was to dark and there were to many people around. The final location was marked by 5 fire tacks in a tree and that is how you knew that you were close to the final cache. We decided to call it a night and come back tomorrow and look for it then. So we drove back to the coach and called it a night. Well until next time we love you all. Mom & Dad
