HAPPY BIRTHDAY SCOTT & CONGRATS ERICA ON YOUR CONFIRMATION 4/6/2008

Before I start we would like to wish Scott a very very Happy Birthday and hope he has a wonderful day and also we would like to congratulate Erica, our granddaughter, on her confirmation today after 2 hard years of classes.
Well this is our last day in Natchez and we think it's a good thing as the river is still rising and it's not expected to crest till Thursday or Friday of this week. As we said before the south end of the campgrounds is flooding and now under water as it has gone over the river bank and over all the sand bagging they did. We had a few caches to do so we went out about 9:30 to get them done. Our first cache was at a neglected cemetery in Natchez.
We drove to Washington, MS and a cache on the campus of Jefferson Military College. It was founded in 1802 and is Mississippi's Oldest school. It received the first charter to be conferred for any purpose by the Legislature of the Mississippi Territory. The monument was one that commemorates the first Constitutional Convention of the MS Territory which met from July 7 to August 15, 1817. Washington, MS was the territorial capitol from 1802-17. During its great days it was known as the "Versailles" of the Territory. In Washington on April 22, 1815, over 200 citizens of the Old Natchez District entertained General Andrew Jackson on his return from the victory over the British at the Battle of New Orleans, January 8, 1815. The college closed in 1964.
Then it was on to a roadside rest area that told the history of the Baptist church in Mississippi in 1791. The site had a very modern cross and 16 plaques describing the history of the church in MS. We found that cache looked around and read some of the plaques and left to go back to Natchez. We drove back into the city and Mom wanted to stop at an outdoor market and look around so we did that and then went back to the RV. I finished the blog from yesterday and am doing todays now. I did the logs all 3 of them and Mom went to sit by the pool in the sun and read. Mom went to take her shower and we are going out to get Popeye's Chicken for dinner tonight. Time to say goodbye until tomorrow from Clinton, MS just outside of the state capital of Jackson. We love you all and miss you.
