On The Road To Tybee Island, GA 1/18/2008

Well we left this morning about 9:15 for our next stop at Rivers end Campgrounds on Tybee Island, GA. It was an uneventful drive and we might add a very lovely drive also through the marshes and wetlands. We got here about 12:30 got all set up and went to the grocery store if that's what you want to call it. It's an IGA and reminded us of the Mom and Pop grocery stores of yesteryear. The aisles were only about 1 1/2 carts wide and it only had about 10 aisles very very small but they did have Black Angus beef. It reminded us of John Cashion's IGA in Cato. We got back and ate lunch and went caching. Found 4 caches this afternoon 1 on a guardrail that goes across a bridge that the locals use for fishing and crabbing, 1 multi cache with 2 stages in a small park here on Tybee, 1 in what they call a Maritime Forest which is a nature trail show casing native vegatation. Maritime forests occur on stabilized dunes of barrier islands and the last cache was in another nature area. Tybee Island was originally inhabited by the Euchee Native American tribe who gave the island its name. Tybee s a Euchee word for salt. In the 1500's the Spanish laid claim to the island. During that time the island was frequented by pirates who used the island to hide from those who pursued them. Well time to go to supper and we are going to a local favorite The Crab Shack a dive on the marsh and we mean dive.....looks like a dump but those are the good places. The pictures are 1-3 Kuhlman Park on the ocean, 4 Atlas Turtle, 5 Cafe Loco, 6 Dewey's Dock Side 7 Myrtle Turtle. Take care and we love all you guys.
