On Our Way To Colorado Springs 6/11/2010

It was off this morning, after unhooking, for Colorado Springs and a weeks stay at Goldfield RV Campground right on the outskirts of the city near Manitou Springs. It was a smooth ride down I-70 to RT-24 and into the campgrounds and the total mileage 132 miles. The ride along I-70 was flat flat and boring as you can see by the pictures. After we got off onto RT-24 it was a little more interesting as we traveled through such booming towns as Matheson, CO Pop. 94, Simla, CO Pop.728, Ramah, CO Pop.220 and Calhan, CO Pop. 869. Funny thing was that the owner of the campground in Seibert told us to watch the small towns for local speed traps as that was the way they made their money and sure enough 2 of the towns there was the local police with radar guns waiting for the unsuspecting tourist. As we got closer to Colorado Springs you could see the landscape changing as it got a little hillier with more trees. Then when we got 20 miles from the city we saw the Rockies and are they ever awesome as you can see by the pictures. We got to the campgrounds about 12:30 and got set up. It's small and the sites are close together, very close, and they charge for wi-fi which wasn't on the web site. The cable leaves something to be desired as there aren't many channels. Bathrooms are very clean and otherwise we can put up with the other things for a week as it was the only place close that had room or didn't charge a arm and a leg for a site. Besides the view of the Rockies from the campgrounds is lovely. We had lunch and went to Wal Mart for groceries and a new microwave as the other one had died when we had the power problem a week or so ago. I also got the car washed as it was filthy. We went back to the coach and had dinner and watched TV the rest of the night. Well that's about all for today so until tomorrow we love and miss you all. Mom & Dad Dori & Dick
