"Go West Young Man" 6/7/2010

You know Horace Greeley once said "go west young man". Well we aren't young by any stretch of the imagination but we are headed west. We left this morning to travel to WaKeeney, CO and a stay at the KOA there. It is just a short stopover on our way to Colorado Springs and we will only be there 2 nights. It was an interesting trip as we drove most of the way in a thunderstorm with lightening and thunder all around us, but the rain wasn't that awfully bad. As we drove along I70 we came across what we thought at first were cell phone towers from a distance, but as we got closer we saw they were windmills. They went on and on and on and on for about 15-20 miles and we stopped counting at 200 and they still went on. We guess they are popular because the wind always seems to blow here. Also as we were driving down the interstate we saw a tractor trailer overturned in the median, trees blown down all over the place and a huge storage tank on its side on the edge of the road. Sure enough they had had a severe thunder and lightening storm with high winds about 3 am that morning and they were still cleaning up from it. We got to the campgrounds about noon, got set up and had lunch. The KOA is very nice with large sites, exceptioanlly clean bathrooms, good cable and wi-fi and a nice pool. After we ate lunch Mom had to go to the post office so off we went into town. WaKeeney is not very large, about 1,900 people, so it it wasn't hard to find the town and it took us all of 15-20 minutes to see what there was to see. One thing we have noticed here and in Salina that a lot of the intersections do not have any stop signs on them so cars going all 4 ways do not have to stop. In fact in Salina we almost got broadsided by a car flying through an intersection. Must be they are to poor to put them up. Well anyway that's about it from our first day in WaKeeney so until tomorrow we love and miss you all. Mom & Dad Dori & Dick
