Caching, Time with Tim & Family, Luke's Championship 6/21-25/2009

Well here we are again still safe and sound and I know I owe you all a lot of blog but circumstances have been so we couldn't do it for the last 10 days or so. More on that later. Our last week at Cross Lake Campground was spent doing a few caches in Elbridge, Marcellus, Skaneateles and Baldwinsville. Really nothing to write home to Mom about except the one we did in Elbridge at the Red and White Creamery Cafe which is a diner and ice cream shop. There is quite a bit of history of the building as it is a Circa 1835 building. The Red and White Building is a late 1830's Greek Revival commercial building. A ridgeway originally built it for Natan Munro's tin shop. In the 1870's Henry Northup's Elbridge Glove and Mitten Company occupied the 2nd floor prior to his moving both the office and the factory to the corner of North and Main Street. In the early 1890's The Elbridge Glove and Mitten Company was moved to 311 South Clinton St. in Syracuse.
On the upper floor of the building was one of the earlist examples of indoor plumbing to be found in the village, which was a cast iron water closet, and lavatory, which was fed by a hand pump. The tin shop gave way to Charles Harrington's Drug and Ice Cream Store from 1885-1934. A black and white photo of the Drug Store is proudly displayed in the Red & White Creamery. As an accommodation to early motorist, Mr. Harrington provided a gasoline pump, one that could be wheeled to the roadside during business hours.
Thoughout the years, the building has had various uses such as: The Red & White Grocery Store (1934-1953), The Elbridge Post office (1953-1961), Yesteryears Antique Shop, Elbridge Florist, Edward Sieklucki Associates and Stitch In Time Business. In December 2005 Judy Conroy of Elbridge purchased the Red & White Building.
Some of the other caches were along nature trails, at a dam on at Marcellus Falls along Nine Mile Creek, on a bridge in Marcellus, several in small parks, quite a few in shopping centers which were real NRV caches and a few in the woods in trees.
We spent a few nights at Tim's house with him and his family and had several great dinners with them. We drove into Camillus one evening to watch Luke play baseball in his championship game. Luke's team won after beating the first place team a few days earlier and then beating the second place team tonight. He played a great game going 1 for 2 and making a couple of very nice plays in the field. We watched them get their trophies and saw him after and he was quite happy as you can see from the picture. We went out to dinner with Ceil and Mark before we left for Ottawa and had a great dinner at Daniel's in Marcellus. Well that's about all for this post so we will say until next time we love you all.
