Dinner, Caching, Golf, Breakfast and Some Cooler Days & Nights 6/10-12/2008

Tuesday started off with us running some errands and going to the grocery store to get dinner for Thursday night. We got a phone call from Tim saying there was bad weather headed our way and he asked if we would batten down the hatches at his house. We did have a storm but not as bad as they had north of Syracuse where they had trees and power lines down all over. After the storm was over we had to go to Wally World and pick up a few things and later in the day we did get more rain but it wasn't to bad. After the last storm late in the day the hot weather broke and it was so nice and cool the rest of the night. Wednesday started nice and cool and I went to breakfast with Mark, my old boss, and Stubby, the CSEA union rep, at Denny's. We chatted and solved the problems of the world for about 2 hours. I played golf for the first time with George in the afternoon at Pine Grove and really surprised myself as I shot an 82 with 2 birdies and really only had 1 bad hole where I took a 7 on a par 4. Wednesday night we went to dinner with John & Chris Cashion at Tom's Clam Cove in Mattydale. We had a great dinner and a great visit with them and as usual the food was terrific. Thursday we went caching in the morning out in the Baldwinsville area. Our first cache was in B'ville near the river along a fence, second, was a cache located outside a baseball field in the woods, third and fourth, were near road signs ,fifth, was hidden in the end of a log, sixth, was outside a park in Lysander and was a nano container, seventh, was a container hidden under a rock along the road near the woods, eight, was cache located at a ice skating rink, ninth, was a cache located near a business on a power transformer,(magnetic sign on the back of the transformer) tenth, was another hidden on a road sign and the last cache was a park and grab at Dunkin Donuts. Then it was off to the RV and lunch and Mom put dinner on for everybody, although Tim had to take Cody to Rochester for a soccer game, and she also made brownies. Mom also did our cache logs and I am doing the blog now and it's almost time to eat so we will say until next time be good and we love you all.

A Bunch of Days, Some Caching, and HOT, HOT, Hot 6/5-9/2008

Well it certainly has been sweltering here as we are sure it has been all around the east and south. About all we have been doing is trying to keep cool. We went out and bought a small room air conditioner on Friday to put in the RV as it really got unbearable in here on Thursday. It really has cooled it off and the last few nights we had to turn it down as it got quite cool. We have done a little caching mostly in the morning on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we stayed around Camillus and found some of the new caches that have been put out in the last week or so. There was one in Camillus Mall, one at Holy Family Church, one at Fairmount Glen Miniature Golf, one down near Geddes Brook, and the last one was at Shove Park in the woods and we watched Luke's baseball game. He lost another tough game and he had 1 hit. On Sunday we drove over to Thornden Park and did 5 caches there one in the rose garden, which was starting to bloom and the roses were beautiful, one in the woods up a hill that I had to slide down on my rump because it was so steep, one in the woods in a stump, one in a guy wire holding up a phone pole and the last one there was a nano hidden in an amphitheater on a fence. We went to Westminster Park then and a puzzle cache hidden in a rock wall. You had to solve the coords which were written in Chinese numbers before you could find it. That was it for caching as it was getting hotter by the minute so it was back to the air conditioning. We had some great dinners as Friday we went out with Ceil, Mark, George and Jeanette to Twin Trees Two for pizza. It was nice seeing George and Jeanette again and they haven't changed at all in 2 years. George and I plan on playing golf when it cools off a little this week. Saturday night Melissa and Tim asked us to go downtown for Taste of Syracuse which was unbearably hot and so so crowded. They did a lousy job in arranging the food booths as they put them in a square with the main stage and you had to wade through people 10-12 deep to get any food. You really would think that they could come up with a better plan than they had or else a larger place to hold it. Music was not our kind of music either. Sunday Melissa and Tim fixed a GREAT dinner of steamed clams, pasta salad, chicken spedies and strawberry pie.........it was YUMMY. Tonight is hot dog night with salad, something easy and quick in this heat. Not much else going on as Mom washed today and I watched the Yankees lose to Kansas City. Like I said it's really been to hot to do much of anything except stay in and try and keep cool. Well almost time for dinner so we will say until sometime soon we love and miss you all.

Boring !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6/4/2008

Not much going on here today. Mom wasn't feeling well so she slept till 9:30. I washed the windows inside and out in the RV and cleaned the floor and vacuumed. After Mom got up we went to Wally World to pick up chicken for supper and Nikki needed some spray paint and markers for her and her friends to make tee shirts for the school baseball game this afternoon. We got back and I finished the windows and visited the town and saw George for the first time in a few years. We made plans to go for pizza with George, Jeanette, Mark and Ceil on Friday. We got back and I washed the car and then showered and Mom watched some TV. Nikki got home with her friends and they made their tee shirts with the paint and markers and I dropped them at the baseball game, came home and started dinner on the grill. We ate and Rosie had a concert at school so Melissa and Tim went to that and Mom and I watched TV. Like I said BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. Well until tomorrow we love you and miss you all.

Wash the Coach Day and a Final Lax Game 6/3/2008

This morning we decided to wash the coach as the road film on it was awful. So we had breakfast and did a few things around the RV and then we backwed it into Tim's driveway and we set out washing it. I scrubbed and Mom rinsed. It really didn't take us that long and it looked great except for where the water runs off the roof in the front and back. I will have to take some cleaner to that part in a few days. After we got done we had lunch and we both showered. I did some work on the blog and on the article I am doing for the Grand Strand Geocachers monthly news letter. We left about 5 for Scott's teams playoff lax game in Vestal and stopped on the way to pick up subs at Jrecks. We got to the game and it was sprinkling and as the game wore on it rained quite hard and we really got wet. The game was not good and the outcome was worse as Binghamton lost 10-2 and the season is finished unfortunately. It wasn't the best year Scott's team has had and if they had won the games that they lost by 1 goal things would have been a lot brighter. Oh well next year will be better. We drove half way home in the rain and by the time we got to Cortland it had stopped....thank goodness. Mom wasn't feeling good about halway through the game and is still sleeping this morning in Tim's house. She had bad stomach cramps and it might have been from the tuna sub we had, but who knows. Well we got home about 10 and both of us went straight to bed. So we will close and until tomorow we love you all.

Doctors Visit and Caching with Judy 6/2/2008

Well we had our 6 month doctors visit with Dr. Schaildone this morning and the report is very good. He was pleased with our blood work, blood pressure, sugar count, and cholesterol. So we got a clean bill of health and they are going to do blood work again this month as the last time we had it done was in January. After we were done at the doctors we came back to the RV, changed our clothes and we were off to pick up Judy for a morning of caching. We picked her up and we were off to our first cache located in a small park in Liverpool out behind the baseball diamond in the woods.
Second cache was in a Liverpool cemetery which Judy found first thing.
Third, it was on into Liverpool for a cache located in Johnson Park in the center of the village.
Fourth and fifth were caches located out behind the archery range and in the woods near a picnic area in Onondaga Lake Park.
Sixth, we drove into Baldwinsville again for a cache located along the locks in the village. We had looked for this cache on Friday but couldn't find it but this time we were successful.
Seventh was a cache at Shacksboro School House in Baldwinsville. This school house was built in 1879 and was at that time a one room school house. It was in service until 1952 and was moved to its present location in 1976 as part of B'ville's bicentennial celebration. The school house even has a one week summer program for children to learn more about B'ville and to visit the historical sites in the village.
Eighth cache was outside of B'ville at the location of what used to be Goetz Dolls Store. Judy also found this cache as it was a large magnetized sign with the cache waypoint on it stuck to a transformer.
Ninth was a cache located out side a truck repair shop stuck into a crack in a tree.
We drove Judy home and went back to the RV, showered and Mom did the logs and I caught up on the blogs. We had another great dinner of steak, veggies, rice and sweet corn and it all was delicious. We watched TV for awhile and I went to bed about 9 and Mom was up till 11.

Sunday Caching in Syracuse 6/1/2008

We ate breakfast this morning and loaded some caches into the GPS and we were off into Syracuse for some really neat caches. First one was a multi-cache with both parts outside of Carousel Mall and it was called Monumental BBQ. It had to do with when the first BBQ was held in Onondaga County and it was June 26, 1756 and was hosted by Sir William Johnston.
Second cache was in a 4" piece of pipe outside Roth Junkyard and we were watched by an old lady guard who drove up when we parked in front of the gate and watched us until we drove off.
Third cache was in the woods behind a small park in the city.
Fourth cache was located on a bridge support on a bridge that runs over Onondaga Creek.
Fifth was a micro cache in Franklin Park. This little out of the way park is home to a monument in memory of Benjamin Franklin. Born in 1706, Mr. Franklin died in the year 1790. The dedication reads Scientist, Schloar, Diplomat, Inventor, Patriot, Philosopher, Printer, and Publisher. "Tart words make no friends, a spoonful of honey will catch more flies than a gallon of vineger." "If you not be forgotten, as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading or do things worth writing."
Sixth was supposed to be a walking tour multi-cache of Syracuse, but we drove it. The first stage was located in Columbus Circle and we had to get information from the monument and the church. Second stage was at the Museum of Art where we had to get some information from some modern sculptures. The third and final stage was also located at the Museum but on the other side of the building on a piece of modern art. It was a fun cache to do as it made you think a little.
Seventh cache was behind the Syracuse Community Center in a guardrail.
Eighth cache was located in Thorndon Park on what has been labeld "The Elephant Tree" which is much much deformed tree with lots of secret hiding places.
Ninth cache was in Tipperary Hill and was also a multi-cache. It started at a Welcome to Tipperary Hill sign from which we had to get information and figure the next set of coords. Next location was in a small memorial garden located down the street where you had to find a 35mm film can with the coords to the final set of coords and also sign a log. The third stage was a in a small park where you had to find a bronze statue of Henry Wilson founder of Wilson Jewelry Store a long time landmark store in Syracuse. Another fun cache to do for us.
Tenth cache was a Peter Coleman's Traditional Irish Pub located on Tipperary Hill around where he gets his yearly delivery of green beer for St Patricks Day festivities. The pub boasts two main doors at its entrance - one for regular folks and the other for the "wee people" - and its Irish pub decor is accented with a solid oak bar fashioned after Jury's in Ireland and beautiful custom made celtic-design stained glass windows created by a local stained-glass artist and gracing the building like sparkling jewels. Coleman's has been voted one of the best Irish Pubs in the U.S and offers most Irish beers to be desired such as Smithwicks, Guiness and others.
Eleventh cache was located just up the street in a small park commemorating the Irish families on Tipperary Hill. It also is across from one of a very few traffic lights that have the green light on the top and the red light on the bottom. It looks upside down, but, to those of us that are Irish, it is right The red represents the British. The Green represents the Irish. John Ryan was the first to request that they hang the light Green on top. It happened for a short time and then the Government stepped in and made them change the light back. A group of people now called the Stone Throwers, threw stones at the light until it need replacement. After several traffic lights were replaced, the residents of Tipperary Hill approached the City of Syracuse and requested that the light be reversed and stay that way.
We drove back to the RV and had lunch, I showered and did our DNF logs and then Mom did our cache logs. We watched TV for awhile and it's almost time for dinner. Melissa made lasagna for dinner because I had such a lousy lasagna the other night at Copani's. Well time to say good night and until tomorrow, we love you all and miss you.

A Restful Day at the RV & a Good Lax Game 5/31/2008

Well today wasn't an awful interesting day so you may want to skip reading this. Mom went to the Farmer's Market and Carousel Mall with Judy and I stayed home and did a few things around the RV and worked on the article we are doing for the Grand Strand Geocachers Monthly Newsletter. Mom got home about 2:00 and we watched a little TV and left about 5:00 for Binghamton and Scott's playoff lax game with Union-Endicott. They played a little sloppy but won 10-6 so that was good. Up next in the playoffs is Vestal on Tuesday night and that will be a tough tough game for them. Well it's almost time for dinner so we will say until tomorrow and we love you all.
